Triple Header Basketball Game
West Hempstead, NY—In an event that HANC students, faculty, and alumni had all been greatly looking forward to and will be looked at for years as a monumental day for our program regardless of the outcome, the boys and girls basketball teams took on a quadruple-header of local rivals and opponents on January 3 in the illustrious setting of the Nassau Coliseum.
The support was incredible, the felt emotions were tangible in the arena, and supporters were not only excited to be there to witness HANC history but to be able to contribute, through ticket sales, to the Israel Sports Center for the Disabled (ISCD).
Throughout the night there were a total of four games played, each with their own unique storylines and highlights. The first game was Girls Varsity Basketball followed by Boys Varsity. Despite their strong game plans, energy, and communication throughout both matches, both varsity teams ultimately fell to their opponents.
However, the real spectacle of the night took place afterwards—a recreational game pairing members of the ISCD with fans from both basketball teams. According to many who took part, not only was the game a joy but it was informative and touching.
Following the ISCD recreational scrimmage, the fans in the arena suddenly got excited: a rivalry as old as Long Island, it was the HANC vs. HAFTR alumni game. As large as the venue was, the crowd noise was deafening. The players on the court relished the opportunity, laughing and smiling while at the same time playing hard and hungry to win. It was a joy to watch.
The night at Nassau Coliseum was an amazing Tzedakah Project and we hope to take part in many more events like this in the future!
