CIJE Hackathon 2023
On Thursday, February 2nd, HANC attended the annual CIJE Hackathon along with many other Jewish schools around the region. At the Hackathon, student teams were given a theme on which to base their clever, insightful inventions. This year’s theme was the pervasive issue of poverty in African villages. Each team watched a series of informational videos on the topic and took educational courses to better understand what they wanted to construct in response.
After the instructions were distributed, each team worked together to find the necessary components that they would need to build a working prototype, create a running website, and put together a slideshow for the judges. Hanc’s teams developed a suction filtration system to help quickly filter the water the African women collect every morning and a device to help provide better education to Africans living in remote communities.
Each team had to work together to code and engineer their project with help from online resources and CIJE administrators. When it was time to present, each group brought up their prototype to give a demonstration to the other schools and judges. All the schools did amazing, and HANC placed semifinalists! It was a great event all around.
