Yom Haaztmaut 2023
On Wednesday, April 26, HANC High School gathered together in order to joyously celebrate Yom Haatzmaut, Israeli Independence Day. The students’ day began with a school-wide davening in the gym with Hallel led by Rabbi Hulkower and a learning session with Mrs. Eisner. In addition to offering a sense of purpose and context for the occasion to students here at the high school, HANC also welcomed our beloved grandparents to appreciate the lessons and enjoy the festivities as well. With our families–as well as the family of the HANC community–we all came together and were presented with a wonderful complimentary breakfast alongside thoughtful, inspirational lectures by Rabbi Selengut as well as Mrs. Eisner.
Following breakfast, students gathered in the gym for a carefully-crafted Kahoot for the celebration filled with trivia about Israel and HANC. To the delight of the students, HANC faculty also joined the fun by playing the age-old trivia game, Name that Tune. “The Kahoot was a great way to get everyone excited for the rest of the program, and the teachers playing ‘Name that Tune’ had kids cheering and encouraging them as they faced off,” said Erin Steinberg 25’.
Following the games, cheers, and laughter, the program transitioned into a chagiga featuring the music of Eitan Katz. Various songs including Ani Ma’amin and Ki Karov were performed and collectively enjoyed. Students from across all grade levels joined together to celebrate and dance as a wholesome and lively way to celebrate Israeli Independence Day–a way that was both enjoyable as well as deeply enriching.
We at the Herald would like to express our gratitude to everyone–including administrators, administrative assistants, and faculty members–who made this amazing experience possible.
