This past week was Chanukah. As a way of celebrating, HANC’s Student Senate ran a fun and engaging activity for the entire student body: a hunt for a “jug of oil”. This was a Chanukah twist on the Afikomen hunt that HANC’s Student Life hosts around Pesach time.
For this activity, a cut out picture of a jug of oil was hidden somewhere in the building. On every day of Chanukah that school was in session, a new clue written by Student Senate members was sent out, hinting at the jug’s location.
The prize for finding the jug of oil started off as forty dollars, but every school day that the jug wasn’t found, the reward would decrease. This kept the hunt exciting and incentivized the students to find the jug as fast as they could.
Over the course of Chanukah, there were a total of three jugs hidden and found. The first was hidden in the first floor office and found by Joey Grunfeld ‘24, the second was on the stage and found by Jakey Turkfeld ‘25 and Eliya Youssefia ‘25, and the third was by the Israel News board and found by Yarden Weiss ‘26, Baily Finkel ‘27, and Samuel Shimunov ‘27.
Congratulations to those who found the jugs of oil and thank you to the Student Senate for running this amazing activity and for all of student body who participated.
